Only Thread Starters Have Formatting Options

I started a thread for kommunity members to post pics of themselves as babies.  Turns out I am the only one who can post an image int he thread. After the initial post, the only option is to post a text comment.  I think this is a big issue, since it severely limits how members can interact in the forum...which is the main purpose of using Flux.  With most forums, you have this heirarchy:

CATEGORY

   Thread Title &  Initial Post

         Reply

         Reply

Flux seems to be working more like YouTube in that the Initial post is the only portion of the thread intended to have any rich text formatting or media or links and everything after that is a comment on the first post.  That's not conducive to vibrant discussion.  Good boards give you a "rtf" reply box for every post.

I'm hoping this is something the folks at Flux can work out for us.  I can give you some examples to look at, if you like.

Flux allows flagging, but all that does behind the scenes is create a list of "flagged content." Then, those bestowed with the power to do so have 3 choices:
Remove the flag (no other action)
Ban the user

Um...I forget the third right now. Haven't looked in a few days. I'm so spoiled...I'm on another forum that has a complex point system to track trolls and repeat offenders and a couple of different levels of consequences in the form of restricting certain functionality before resorting to full-out banning. Flux really hasn't put a whole lot of effort into this out of the box. They can do some customization, but that's all up for negotiation right now, and that's what we're here to figure out...what do we want.

HTML is wonderful... I'm glad you realize the risk in allowing it though... This got me thinking, is there a way to flag inappropriate images and links?

Most I know allow you to do either. You can go the long way and hit the buttons, or just type it out.

Since you mentioned that, I think I did see an option where we can enable HTML for all commenters, but there's an inherent security risk in that. We'll see what the techies have to say. I'm personally familiar with HTML and VBulletin code, but I always prefer having formatting buttons to select from rather than having to hard code all the time. We want the board to be as friendly as possible.

On a similar note, it'd be a lot quicker to insert all sorts of nifty formatting options if we could just use standard BBCode or HTML, instead of all of this button-clicking we have to do.
Either would also let us be able to use formatting in these comments, as well, because instead of having to click your way to a bolded word, we could just place the text in [b][/b] brackets.
